What do we see in this work of art - carp becomes dragon?

The artwork attached is a Korean folk painting called Yaklido (image of a jumping carp, , ), which comes from the legend of the Chinese Dragon Gate (the dragon rising to the gate, , ) . This painting consists of said carp jumping in the air. Up the Yellow River of China, there is a gorge called Yongmun (Dragon Gate, , ). It is said that the current in this gorge is very strong and even large, strong fish have difficulty swimming against it. There is a legend that a fish that fought against the rough currents of the Dragon Gate became a dragon. The dragon gate is a symbol of success, which is why this folk painting, Yaklido, was primarily used as a gift that contributed to success, for example before an important exam.

The exact title of the painting is: "An image of a carp becoming a kite". Under this title the Japanese depict a carp jumping into the water. In Korean folk pictures, however, it is usually shown jumping into the air. So that's what we mean by Yaklido. Along with the Yongmun Gorge in the background, some of the carp heads in these paintings are painted with dragon faces.

Where can this mural hang?

The artwork Carp Becomes a Dragon by Misun Kim, printed on canvas, stands out from the monotony with its round shape. This classic Asian pattern fits particularly well in an office or in the dining room, where it impresses with its elegance and unusualness.
