Oedipus the King is the story of a ruler brought down by his own oath, unknowingly in conflict with himself. It has the tension of a terrifying detective story. Oedipus at Colonus ends the aged king's nightmare of self-discovery. His sins finally atoned, he 'sees' in his blindness and reaches a secret place of eternal rest.
